Rethinking the museum experience
Our project, Museum Exhibition of the Future, was centered on reimagining how visitors engage with and learn from museum exhibits, particularly focusing on the Natural History Exhibition at Vapriikki Museum. Museums are places where people explore science, history, and culture, and with advancements in technology, they are evolving into interactive hubs that offer immersive and participatory experiences. The Vapriikki Museum challenged us to envision how technology might reshape the museum experience, making it more interactive, engaging, and accessible to visitors from all walks of life. To achieve this, our solution needed to emphasize interactivity and learning while respecting the unique qualities of the Natural History Museum.
Our approach to the challenge
To address the challenge comprehensively, we employed a variety of user-centered design methods. Field study helped us immerse ourselves in the current museum experience, while interviews with visitors provided qualitative insights into their preferences and behaviors. We used affinity diagramming to organize these findings, stakeholder mapping to align priorities, and personas to represent key customer segments. Ideation workshops guided by "How might we" questions fueled creativity, leading to storyboarding, value proposition canvas, and two rounds of prototype testing.

The outcome: A fun and engaging AR experience
These efforts resulted in a holistic solution: An interactive AR-driven service designed to engage visitors, enhance learning, and create lasting memories of their visit to the exhibition.
